Na Cúig Chéadfa – the five senses screenprint is inspired by the language used with Covid-19. Over the last year we have been warned of the waves of Covid, waves of covid washing over our senses, influencing our 5 senses in good and bad ways.
In the early part of the pandemic, our sense of touch was first to be restricted, with grandparents unable to hug grandkids for fear of transmission, social and physical distances were introduced, and the term waves of covid became familiar. Our sense of taste and smell was said to be impacted by the virus. Taste and smell were also central to the baking frenzy! with many supermarkets selling out of flour. However, I also believe our 5 senses were influenced in a positive way by covid, with people appreciating the outdoors, nature and their local environments more. How was sight, sound, smell, touch and taste altered for you?
