Take part in a creative book-binding workshop
After influences from attending European book fairs this year, I am reviewing this workshop to merge with artist books &/or visual poetry processes. If interested please sign up to my mailing list. I hope to have something ready for booking in late August/September 2024.
Learn the basics of bookbinding with Angelina Foster at Blueway Art Studio. Angelina will guide you to create your own concertina artists book.
Make a simple hardback concertina or accordion book on bamboo paper, no sewing. Concertina books make great artists books, as you can view all the pages at once. They’re also great for graphics, fine art, travel and family journals or any kind of visual storytelling.
Participants will learn how to work with traditional book binding materials and techniques and get creative with alternative structures and styles. Preparation and planning of book structures, folding, making the cover, stitching and assembling the books.
In this class, we create a blank accordion or concertina book for you to fill in as you wish.
Options to add a button & thread, explore impromptu mono printing to produce a range of interesting textures and patterns onto paper, which can be included in your book (similar to photos).
With a choice of the finest materials, your book is a step in your own story.
All materials included (we will be using a variety of quality recycled papers, Japanese Awagami papers, lined papers, book cloth, waxed thread, non-toxic screen printing inks & screens, rubber-based letterpress ink) Tea, coffee, biccies included
You make your book from start to finish, choosing your own papers and covers. Feel free to bring your own paper with sketches, writing, photos and anything you wish to include.
This workshop can be adapted to a full day for groups (and combined with letterpress, etching or monoprint)
