Experiment with print on a screen printing weekend in Kildare where you’ll get to explore advanced techniques and your own creativity in Ireland’s Ancient East.

This 2-day screen printing workshop at my Blueway Art Studio in the village of Narraghmore is for people who have basic knowledge of screenprinting, and wish to experiment with the process, through mark-making using layers and lithography tusches, or working with textures. 

Work at a pace that suits you in a fun and creative workshop, where I’ll share local stories to inspire you and help you improve your range of screen printing techniques.

If you are not yet familiar with how to coat a screen or screenprinting with screen block or paper stencilling, then choose my screen printing workshop for beginners first. In this more advanced screen printing workshop, screens will be pre-coated so the artists who gather for the weekend won’t need to wait for them to dry.

We will use the gouache screenprinting system, a more sustainable method of printing. A selection of acrylics will also be available for you to use.

Workshop highlights:

  • Learn to use the photo stencil method of screen printing to produce highly detailed work.
  • Enjoy exploring layers, textures and your own creativity.
  • Learn a few Irish words, experiment with fonts, and incorporate interesting found objects or local stories into your original stencils.

What’s included in the price?

Just bring yourself! All materials needed for advanced screen printing are supplied, within reason, including 5 sheets of Awagami paper, Gouache inks, and screens, though if you want to print on fabric you will need to bring that along. Tea and coffee are also included.

You may either bring your own lunch or opt for the local community café – known as the Old Hardware. It’s a great place to find hand-made scones or cakes, and Mel’s Gastro Pub across the road from the Blueway Studio, serves food from 2pm at the weekends and from 5pm during the week.

There are lots of options for things to do, places to stay, eat and drink in nearby Athy too.

What should I wear?

It’s a good idea to wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you won’t mind getting marked.

How accessible is the workshop?

Blueway Art Studio is on the ground floor so there are no stairs to climb. However, it’s an old building with a smaller than usual door so not all wheelchairs fit through.


You might not believe it, but everyone is creative! Some of the people who join us at the workshops may be practising creatives and others will be absolute beginners. All are welcome! You just need to bring an open mind and you will create something you will cherish.
